I trained at Kings College, University of London in 1973. I worked as an independent family dental surgeon since that time. I served as a Surgeon Lieutenant Commander with the Royal Naval Reserve. That was an honour, which I regard as great privilege. After my retirement from the Royal Naval Reserve, I, and my expanding family, moved to Shetland. That was in the summer of 1991. After London, Birmingham, West Bromwich and Walsall, the urban life was taking its toll. Twenty years of private practice dental surgery and my first baby’s birth imminent, I desperately needed a gentler place to raise a family. Fate showed its hand, Alan Owen, Shetlands stalwart and longest serving dental surgeon fell ill. A locum was urgently needed, my own practice just sold, I headed North and my new life began... I was fortunate to find a Croft, on the West Side of Shetland, which I acquired the tenancy of, in 1991. That Croft, Flawton, Clousta, has been part of my life’s work since that time. With Croft Commission blessing, the land was set fallow, to be used as a conservation area, for all natural wild flora and fauna. I was blessed during my twenty five years in Flawton with two daughters, now grown, many pets of various types and the fabulous friendship of many Shetland folk.

About my story: About

I am a Crofting resident of Clousta, West Shetland, with a record of serving Shetland for twenty five years as a dental surgeon. I have huge life experience ranging from dental surgery, to raising my family as a single parent on benefits. Very sadly, my wife was disabled completely, by severe postnatal illness, so for many years was unable to help raise our daughters. I have served with the Royal Navy as a commissioned Reservist which gives me a small insight into the hardships of maritime life. I believe I have very much to offer Shetland and her folk. I stand as an Independent Candidate, although I fully endorse the views of “Wir Shetland” and strive with that organisation for Shetland Autonomy, my manifesto, views expressed and opinions are entirely my own.

A great benefit of my dental profession is I have worked in very close proximity to very many of Shetlands people. Many friendships formed with candid opinions discussed. I have a vast pool of patients, acquaintances and friends all approachable for sound advice and help.

It is a matter of public record that I have always fought hard to combat, bigotry, xenophobia, homophobia and discrimination of all types. I have never balked from expressing these views and never will, however much that may offend others. I also have poor sufferance of fools, some regard that as being undiplomatic, I can live easily with that.

About my story: About

A section just for the Trolls and other things nasty!

Sadly, it is a sign of the times, in any public situation, some of the nasty brigade come forward. I have always made my views and sometimes forthright opinions known and in return, I have fielded some silly insults. For those interested, I have always campaigned hard against, bigotry, sectarianism, tribalism, racial predudice and any type sexual discrimination. I welcome immigration of all types and from all places. I abhor how Commonwealth Citizens are discriminated against by the European Union. We owe a huge depth of thanks to our Commonwealth friends and so should all of Europe. The link below is to some photographs of a few friends, overseas friends and some recent immigrants to Shetland. All I regard as friends, many back my candidature. I only give limited information on each, as one or two have already been trolled and insulted for sharing my views and endorsing my friendship!
